About Laura

Laura Duksta is a New York Times bestselling author, TEDx speaker, and lifelong Ambassador of Love—whose work has touched millions of hearts, homes, and classrooms around the world.

For more than twenty-five years, she has shared a simple yet transformative message:

You are loved. Always. Beyond measure.

A Life Shaped by Love, Loss, and Resilience

Laura knew from a young age that she was meant to travel the world, connect with her sisters and brothers, and share a message of love. What she didn’t yet understand were the life experiences that would expand her capacity to love herself, others, and humanity more fully.

At age eleven, she lost her hair to Alopecia Areata—an experience that deeply impacted her sense of identity and belonging. For nearly two decades, she hid behind wigs, navigating what it meant to feel different while searching for her own sense of worth.

Years later, she survived a car accident that took the life of her best friend—an experience that forever changed her understanding of presence, purpose, and what truly matters. It also deepened her connection to what she calls her TOA—her Team of Angels—who guide and continue to inspire her life and work. All of her books are signed “Keep Shining!”— as her angel Donna reminds her to do so each day.

These moments became powerful teachers, guiding her toward a deeper understanding of love—not as an abstract idea, but as a living force capable of healing and transforming lives.

Eventually—after the inspiration for I Love You More—Laura made the courageous and bold decision to live openly as herself, embracing her bald head and the truth that our uniqueness is not something to hide, but something to honor.

In her words…

“Our greatest challenges can become our greatest gifts—opportunities to grow, to glow, and to Keep Shining!”

The Unexpected Beginning of I Love You More

While Laura had the vision at a young age that she’d one day share a message of love, what she never imagined was that this path would unfold through becoming an author.

In fact, she never aspired to write a book.

After receiving a P– in penmanship in second grade, Laura quietly carried the belief—and the shame—that she was a terrible writer. The idea of becoming an author never entered her mind.

Until, one night, while praying for her sister, she felt a clear inner prompting to pray for her nephew. As she did, the idea for I Love You More poured through her—call it inner wisdom or divine guidance. It wasn’t something she had planned or pursued, but it was clear she was meant to bring this book—and its message—into the world.

Trusting that call, Laura and her mom, a kindergarten teacher for 38+ years, took a leap of faith—borrowing $10,000 on her mom’s credit cards to print the first run of the book.

The timing was unforgettable.

The original illustrations were packed up and sent off to scan overseas on September 10, 2001. The very next day, the world changed.

Standing in those next few days they didn’t know whether they should move forward with the risk of self-publishing—though realized now, more than ever, the world would need their book and its message of LOVE.

Laura often reflects on the deeper meaning of that moment. For years leading up to 2001, the time 9:11 had held a special significance in her life. On the morning of September 11, 2001, during a call with her coach, that started at 9AM, her coach said words that would stay with her forever:

“There’s nothing more important than this book right now.”

At the time, no one yet understood what was unfolding. Though in the days and years that followed, the truth remains:

Love heals.
Love dissolves fear.

Love matters now more than ever—
and so do YOU.

What began as a simple expression of love has since found its way into hearts, homes, and classrooms around the world. Today, I Love You More is published in multiple languages and continues to be shared across countries and cultures.

Laura often smiles at how her original vision unfolded.

She once imagined she would travel the world sharing a message of love.

Instead, the message traveled—reaching people across the globe in ways she never could have planned.

To be clear… she’s still traveling too—continuing to share that message wherever and whenever she receives, A Call to Love.
